This blog got a little philosophical lately. Too much time in coffee shops, I think. I feel like I've been educating myself all over the place - not just in early Netherlandish art, but in classical music, in ballet, in celebrity culture (Facebook sidebars keep me informed)...it's been an adventure, and I'm sure it will continue.
So as for what's actually occurring in everyday life, my cousin Bre came from France to stay with me for a few days! It was wonderful to have her here and do some of the tourist things I hadn't gotten around to yet. We did the London Eye, which has a gorgeous view at night. It's always seeing London by night that makes me feel lucky to live here. (Probably something to do with all those magical lights, or all those annoying people in the daytime.) We had a couple dinners out, hunting down a good local for Indian food and ending up another night at the trendy and delicious Wahaca. I hope the rest of her journey around England goes smoothly. :)

I'm trying to find a good balance of working schedule and playtime - or, since I'm mobile, finding places to work further afield that let me explore and be productive at the same time. Although that usually devolves into philosophical blog posts like the last one.
There was a "Stop Arming Israel" protest across the street this morning, in front of a very discreet office building. (I have no idea what the company does, or what the protesters' take on it was beyond slogans.) I watched from my window as the people above looked down from conference rooms or kept working at their computers. The people on the street shouted into megaphones and one cop, then two, stood calmly by the doorway. I was oddly excited - regardless of what I feel on the issue, there's something life-affirming about a protest, about seeing people who care so deeply about an issue. (Well, almost regardless - I do mind if it's about spreading hatred or fear.) I am grateful to see the ability to protest without fear of retribution or violence, and I'm aware of how rare that is.
Now I'm watching my tea on the windowsill send steam curling up into the air. Time to get back to some fun-delayed work.
