I'm back in the States for a holiday visit, and realizing ever more how BIG everything is in America. It's something of an apples and oranges comparison because I'm comparing city-centre living to the suburbs. But I still had some culture shock over the size of carts and sheer quantity of everything at the grocery store. I was also vastly disappointed that there were no more shelves selling mince pies, Christmas crackers and puddings, and biscuits. But still, it's Christmastime! And I haven't been nearly overexposed to Christmas music or festivity yet.
I started to sense the season in Paris and in the markets in towns along our tour. In London I also got to wander through the festive Southbank market and Portobello Road in full Christmas force. I loved the London streets in full holiday spirit, and part of me is sad to miss the different experience abroad. I'll be back soon though, and in the meantime am happy to have time with friends and family here. I will also likely take another hiatus from these letters, since I'm back with my main audience!
Love,
Annie
