Distances that I would grumble at before now seem ridiculously short and easy. Maybe it's because there's a lot to see and interest the eye along the way. Maybe it's because it's cheaper (and sometimes even faster) than the bus or tube. The only annoyance is navigating through crowds of slow-walking people. Ugh. People.
I still have to figure out the walking traffic pattern - is it right or left? I've got the driving down, but for walking I'm baffled. I think it's because the style seems to be more "every man for himself" than "stand right, walk left," or something to that effect. (Escalators at least are clear.) Still, the process of wandering and discovery is one of my favorite things about being here so far. While I plan out some journeys, others I'm just happy to discover as they unfold.
Don't look now, but I think there might be a metaphor in there somewhere.
Love,
Annie
